When you think about it, there are basically two major types of search engine optimization techniques used today: Organic SEO or Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Marketing (SEM). Organic SEO is generally considered to be natural or organic. In general, organic SEO focuses on making sure that your webpages rank well in search results and so on, ideally, they will rank higher than your competitors’ too. SEM on the other hand, makes use of targeted keywords or phrases to advertise your business or your product. SEM makes use of pay per click (PPC) or any other paid form of marketing. This means that when someone does a search using those specific keywords or phrases, then your ad will show up on the result page where your ad will be able to target your intended audience.
Organic search results are not always better than paid ones. There are many factors that affect how your ad will appear on a search results page such as the quality of the website design and how your keywords were integrated into that particular page. So if you want your ads to appear on a high ranked search results page then you need to make sure that you have optimized your website correctly. Organic SEO has a lot of advantages over SEM, so it is not surprising that a lot of people prefer to use organic SEO for their advertisements because it tends to produce more targeted results.
One of the main disadvantages of organic search optimization is the time-consuming aspect of it. There is a need to do a lot of keyword research and to generate content on your website in order to get full benefit of keywords. It is true that this method will take a lot of time before you can start getting good results but it is a very effective method compared to the more common PPC advertising methods.
The biggest disadvantage of using organic results is that there is no chance of being able to manipulate search engines. As soon as a user clicks on an advertisement on the page will be counted as a direct result and not an indirect result. This means that even if you manage to get some visitors with your PPC campaigns, the chance of them visiting your website again is very slim since most people don’t like to click on PPC advertisements. In case they do click on your organic advertisement then the page ranking won’t increase which in turn will not only decrease your ranking but also make your advertisements less profitable.
Organic search engine optimization methods are fast results oriented, which makes them popular among online marketers. However if you are looking for fast rankings then you should probably stick with PPC advertising instead. The only real drawback of PPC is that it requires a lot of money. Another disadvantage of organic results is that it takes a longer period of time before you can expect your site to start ranking high in the SERPs.
Both of these methods have their own advantages and disadvantages and it really depends on what you want to achieve. If you are only interested in getting immediate results then you should probably stick with PPC advertising. However if you want to achieve long term sustainable success then you should probably opt for organic SEO methods. Organic SEO takes time to get implemented therefore its effectiveness cannot be observed immediately however when you implement it over a long period of time you will eventually start seeing gradual results which you can use to gauge whether you are making any profits or not.
